A young woman goes on holiday with the affulent married man she is having an affair with. From the start it's fairly obvious he considers her a plaything along with the offroad vehicles, weaponry and gadgets he keeps at his desert holiday home.
Two of his borish friends turn up and, as is typical of such films, after a night of drunken flirtation, the young woman gets raped and beaten, then, after a significant fall from a cliff edge, left for dead.
But she's not, she patches herself up and decides to get revenge on the three men.
Some critics have said that this is a modern take on the rape/revenge film and dropped its name in conversations about various hashtag movements and modern feminism.
I'm not so sure. The protaganist does show a depth of character and strength which is overtly shown to be absent in her earlier scenes, but the same can be said of all the victims turned attackers in such films.
It was directed by a woman, always good to see women directors in what is so obviously a fairly closed boys club, but of course that in itself has no bearing on the film's content.
The fact is, the films plot is the same as many that have preceeded it. However, it definitely does not feel as exploitative or attempting some form of shameful titillation like many of the earlier ones did, and it's certainly satisfying when she turns the tables and hands out some violent retribution.
Also, if you're one of those men who think feminism is a threat, shut the fuck up, you fucking child.
