Sicario: Day Of The Soldado (2018)

I need to watch this again as I think I may prefer it to the first.
Ironically, this films weakest moment, even though the sequence itself is very good, is the scene involving the procession of vehicles into the desert which results in an ambush (without wanting to give away too much).

It was an obvious and slightly cynical attempt at recreating the stunningly tense ride through the city in the first film, if you ran them side by side, they'd probably sync almost beat for beat.

Now, with that said, if a film's weakest moment is still better than 95% of everything else being released, you're doing something very right.

As for the best thing in this film, it's the vibe of slow, pulsing, amorality that runs through everything/person on camera, feeling like characters are happy choosing their preferred evil rather than the lesser one on offer.

It's like one of the best horror films I've seen, but it's not a horror.

Also, this wins points for the most amusingly casual dispatching of goons via grenade that I've ever seen.

When speaking to my brother about this, he said he'd heard that there may be more films in the Sicario world to come.

I hope so, if they're half as good as the first two, they'd still be excellent.
